# Share links

> Copy, send, or display a link to a Dataerai record from its Share menu.

The **Share** button gives you a quick way to send someone to the record you are viewing. It is available on publication, grant, funder, person, and asset views.

Sharing a link does not grant access by itself. The person opening the link still needs permission to view the record. To make a project, collection, or asset available to more people, use [permissions](/sharing/permissions) or [public access](/sharing/public).

## Share a record

1. Open the record you want to share.
2. Click **Share**.
3. Choose how to share it:
   * **Copy link** copies the record URL to your clipboard.
   * **QR code** opens a scannable code for the same URL.
   * **Email** opens a draft message with the title and link.
   * **Mastodon** asks for your home instance, then opens a draft post there.
   * Other platform choices open a draft share page in that service.

For assets, open the asset from a collection first. The shared link includes the collection path and selected asset, so the recipient lands back on the same asset sidebar.

## What gets recorded

Dataerai may count share actions as part of a record's impact metrics. It records the channel, such as **Copy link**, **QR code**, or **Mastodon**, but it does not store email recipients or the people you send the link to.
