Most issues fall into one of a few buckets. Find yours below; if you’re still stuck, your organization admin can help, or check the relevant guide linked from each answer.

Uploads and transfers

An upload stalled or was interrupted

Browser uploads are resumable — an interrupted transfer continues rather than restarting. Reopen the Transfer tracker to see its status. If it shows Failed, start the upload again; completed chunks aren’t re-sent. For very large or bulk transfers, the desktop app and CLI are more robust and add pause/resume.

A transfer shows “Failed” or “expired”

A transfer’s upload credentials are time-limited. If it sat too long before finishing, it can expire and show as Failed. Just start it again.

”Quota exceeded” or I’m out of space

You’ve reached the limit of your allocation. Free up space by removing data you no longer need, store the new data in a different allocation, or ask an admin to raise your quota. Watch for allocation-threshold notifications that warn you before you run out.

Metadata

Extracted metadata didn’t appear

Automatic metadata extraction only runs for recognized file formats, and very large files may exceed the preview limit. If your file isn’t recognized, add the metadata yourself — extraction is a convenience, not a requirement. Extraction may also run in the background, so it can appear shortly after upload rather than instantly.

Sign-in and account

I didn’t get my verification email

After a password sign-up, Dataerai emails a verification link. Check spam, and use Forgot password if needed. Signing in with Globus skips email verification entirely. See Account & profile.

I can’t sign in

Confirm you’re using the right method (password vs. Globus) for your account, and reset your password if you’re unsure. If your access depends on your institution’s Globus identity provider, contact your administrator.

Access and visibility

I can’t see a project, collection, or asset

Access is governed by permissions. If something isn’t visible, you probably haven’t been granted access — ask the owner to share it with you, or with a group you belong to (groups are set up by organization or project admins). Remember that public access is read-only and requires a signed-in account, so you may be able to view something but not edit it.

AI search isn’t available

AI search appears only when your organization has opted in. If you don’t see it, ask an organization admin — see AI policy & access. It also has a personal switch: open your profile and make sure Enable AI-powered search is turned on.
